Obituary of E. Scott Lemmon, Jr.

Earl Scott Lemmon, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2015. He was 96. . Born in Akron, Ohio, he was a long time resident of Waldwick, NJ. Scott was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Betty Lemmon as well as both of his parents, Sarah and Earl S. Lemmon, his brother, Henry Lemmon, sister, Martha Baxter and a son in law Richard Durham. He graduated from East High School in Cleveland, OH and attended classes at Cuyahoga County Junior College. He worked at Parker Appliance in Cleveland, OH prior to joining the Army Airforce in 1944. He served as a bombardier in the 452nd Bomber Group and was stationed in England from where he flew thirty missions over Germany. After discharge from the Army, Scott’s career included positions in sales and management at various firms in Cleveland, OH, Chicago, IL and NJ. He retired from the George Polk Co. in Clifton, NJ in 1997. Scott enjoyed volunteer work in his communities. In Lyndhurst, OH where he lived until 1967, he was a volunteer fireman and was active in the YMCA, Kiwanis, and the Lyndhurst Presbyterian Church. In Waldwick, Scott served on the board of the public library, was an Elder and served on many committees at the Highlands Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Borough Planning board for 38 years, serving as Chairman for 18 years and was named Waldwick Citizen of the year in 1998. He was a wonderful neighbor wherever he lived and used his snow blower on many neighbors’ walks and driveways. He could be counted on to have the right tool and was willing to assist or “supervise” projects. Scott always retained an interest in the community and politics and enjoyed a lively discussion. He often ended a “debate” saying “just remember one thing!” His family and friends benefited from his sage wisdom. Scott will be dearly missed by his four daughters: Linda Durham, Gail Lloyd (Rick), Roberta “Bobbi” Phelps (Scott), Janet McGovern (Brian), eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The Family would like to thank Life Source Hospice and Brighton Gardens of Saddle River for the loving care they provided over the past few months.
